California Prepper
Follow along as I prepare to hopefully keep my family safe from SHTF events. My hope is that if one person who is not a prepper reads this blog, and realizes the benefits of prepping, then I have accomplished what I set out to do.

Garage Sale finds
Decided to go out garage selling this morning. Ended up picking up 2 5 Gal propane tanks, a large 12" round x 80" deep plastic container full of thread and other sowing supplies, and a small waterproof Seahorse box. I got it all for $25. Not bad.

Starting my battery back up system
Started my battery back up power system today. Didn't accomplish to much. Built the storage rack and put the batteries on them. They weigh about 100 lbs each, so loading up all 10 of them was no easy task. I am hiring an electrician to to do wall the wiring and other electrical work. I'm not to familiar with this kind of set up and don't feel like frying myself. I still need to buy the battery maintainer and inverter. I also plan to add a small windmill I found on ebay and one day a small movable solar setup. More updates to follow.

My first post - First Aid
Welcome to my blog and my first post. I'm writing today about the importance of a good first aid kit. The other night, my young daughter was playing in the house and slipped and hit her head on the corner of the door. I heard her scream and went to check on here. She had a pretty big gouge on her forehead and it was bleeding pretty good. I carried her into the kitchen where we keep our first aid kit. I pulled out the gauze and applied it to her forehead. I went to grab the tape and there wasn't any in the kit. I had to fun out to my car and get the tape out of my first aid kit there. Got my daughter bandaged up and took her to the emergency room where she got stitched up. Lesson learned, go though your medical kits and make sure they are up to date and full. I keep our kit in the kitchen, reason being that I have access to water, ice, knifes. I can also use the table as a gurney. Anyways, everything turned out alright, but was especially a good reminder to go through my kit.
